About The Outback
The Australian outback is an amazing place. It is full of all types of plants and animals. Here are some interesting facts about this wonderful ecosystem:
- Inland and most of north and north-west Australia is generally referred to as the Outback.
- The Australian Outback measures several thousand kilometers from east to west, and north to south.
- The average temperature in the desert areas may be as high as 140 degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius) on summer days, and drop to 15 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 degrees Celsius).
- On average, the central desert regions receive 200-250 mm of rain a year.
- Their is a great diversity of landscapes, such as rocky hills, flood plains, sand dunes, and caves.
- It is most covered with sand (mostly red).
